Health & Wholeness

Health & Wholeness

The SHPC Health & Wholeness Committee is dedicated to improving and maintaining the general health and well being of its congregation and surrounding community.  The mission of this Committee is to promote greater health awareness by providing information, activities and services designed to support healthy lifestyle choices.

Based on God’s call to Wholeness, the Health & Wholeness Committee is committed to helping the congregation and community to attain and maintain high level wellness and explore the many dimensions of healing for body, mind and spirit. The Committee is designed to serve and empower individuals and groups, and sponsor a variety of methods for healthful living and self-care, and engage in advocacy on behalf of its constituency.

Activities include:

  • assessing and helping with physical and mental health needs of the congregation and community--complementing spiritual help of other parts of the church;

  • serving as liaison between members with needs and available services within the community, also perhaps between members and their physicians, if they have no one local to help them understand directions, risks, tests, and other medical options;

  • newsletter information about health, including nutrition, smoking cessation, heart health, exercise, balance, dealing with the medical system, prescription drugs and OTC supplements, maybe family communication, support for caregivers, recommended  tests, care, and vaccinations for various stages of life;

  • addressing specific needs within the church for safety of members and participants at church functions.
