mark_cropped_and_sizedMark Lampley was born and raised in North Carolina by long time, faith-filled Presbyterians.  He was blessed to be a part of an extended family that was Christian and a loving family of faith at Shelby Presbyterian located in western NC.  Born to Dr. Charlie Lampley and Mabel Baird, he was baptized as an infant by Rev. George Webb and became Confirmed as a teenager. He and his elder brother, Chuck, fully participated in sports of all kinds, and enjoyed family trips to hike, ski, camp, and explore throughout the country.  Participating in school and youth group leadership opportunities and becoming an Eagle Scout shaped and equipped him, by God’s grace, to graduate from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC....

with a Bachelors of Arts in 1991.  After serving for a few years as the Director of Education and Youth Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, TN, he enrolled at Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA and graduated in 1995 with a Masters in Christian Education.  In the meantime, he was blessed to meet and marry Karen Wilson from KY immediately before answering God’s call to attend Union Theological Seminary also in Richmond, VA.

Two years after graduating from seminary, they moved to serve First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, WV, where Mark was Associate Pastor of Christian Education and Karen taught both in the church as a Bible study and Sunday School teacher and public school system as an elementary Guidance Counselor.  God blessed them with delights Meg, born in 1998, and Luke, born in 2001, that enriched serving as an enlarged family.

After eight years serving there, Mark was led to serve at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church in 2005.  Karen continues to volunteer in many areas of church and community, but her favorite work and ministry is as children’s choir director and Knox County Elementary Guidance Counselor.  Mark loves jogging, fly fishing, and biking, and together as a family they enjoy biking, camping, and exploring (with songs!) not only in beautiful East TN, but also throughout the southeast.
