The Adult (Chancel) Choir is led by Andrew Skoog, and consists of SHPC members along with several talented scholarship students. The choir leads the Eleven O’clock Worship Service every Sunday morning.  If you would like to be a part of this music ministry – only a love of music is required! – please contact Andrew at 522-9804.

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.

The Joyful Praise Choir (3rd grade - 6th grade) is led by Lisa Bitzas.  The Joyful Noise Choir (Kindergarten – 2nd grade) is led by Karen Lampley.  The children perform during various worship services, at concerts, and participate in a special performance in May.  To register, please call the church office at 522-9804.  Registration begins at the end of August, but your child may join the choir at any time.

Andrew Skoog

skoogWe are pleased to welcome Andrew Skoog as our new Director of Music!  Andrew is a familiar face having first shared his gift of music with us singing Handel's Messiah at the 2008 Christmas Concert.  Since then he has led the Chancel Choir and played both piano and organ in our worship services.

Andrew grew up in Texas, born to a family where not one but both parents were leaders of music in worship.  Music is very much part of his DNA.  Andrew fine tuned his musical talent, graduating cum laude at Arkansas State University.  His Master of Arts Degree was completed at Stephen F. Austen State University, where he was a student of the late David W. Jones.  He went on to teach at the University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College.  While in Texas, Andrew led the choir at Christ Episcopal Church and Pollard United Methodist Church.  In Arkansas, Andrew led the choir at First Christian Church.  Andrew was subsequently led to Knoxville in 2003 where he holds the position of Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Tennessee.  Beloved by the UT students, he has been honored with the Sandra Powell Excellence Professorship and 2011 Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award.

Andrew's musical repertoire is extensive, having made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall as soloist in Handel's Messiah and then returning to Carnegie Hall in 2005 as tenor soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  He also sang with the American Symphony Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall.  His international debut came in 2006 in Carmina Burana with the Bergen Philharmonic (Norway).

We give thanks to God for leading Andrew to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church and look forward to worshiping together, praising our Lord through music.
